Active Reading in Progress
Reading is personally not one of my favorite things to do. When I end up reading something, there are a few strategies that I use; I reread passages, I make notes of what I liked, and I talk with my friends about what we read and their input on the passage. In the past, these strategies have helped me. For example, re-reading a passage more than once. Sometimes at a first glance I know that I’m not entirely focused on the task and my minds some place else so I end up missing a lot of what I’m reading. Since I’ve missed a lot of what I read, I go back and reread the passage with a more focused approach and I always find more than what I read originally.
Part One of Emerging by Barclay Barrios, focuses on the ways a reader and a writer can perfect their skill. Specifically, there are strategies that are helpful to active reading. A few of these strategies may be potential in improving my skill such as identifying passages that confused me and to keep reading the essay. I feel like the strategy to keep reading when the essay confuses me is a huge one, because when I get confused or feel defeated about an essay I tend to stop reading and give up. By continuing to read, maybe I’ll get a better understanding and with my already known strategy to reread I could get an even better understanding of the passage. All of these strategies benefit better ways of active reading.

Very good first blog! I use a lot of those strategies too. The picture was a good representation of what your annotations look like.
