What to Keep In Mind Regarding Quote Use
For my Friday blog post, I’m going to be discussing what I keep in mind regarding quote use as I begin to write my first essay in English 110. Quote use isn’t always used properly in writing. I know that I’ve struggled with it some of my past papers, but I’ve learned it is very important for a strong supportive paper. The past few weeks we’ve been learning about certain skills to use and improve on when it comes to active reading, annotating, writing paragraphs with use of quotations, how to introduce quotations, and more. Focusing in on quote use, things to keep in mind are: placement of the quote, introduction to the quote, citing the quote, indenting when the quote is four lines or more, not over analyzing a quote, framing the quote, and blending your words along with the author’s quote. To go more in depth, before you add a quote into your paper you need to start your paper with an in depth to your topic and then introduce the quote. At the end of your quote you always need to close it up with citations. The follow up sentence or two after the quote should be an in depth explanation of the quote and why it has to do with your paper and/or topic. You can add in quotes whenever you feel it is necessary in your paper and you have the information to support it. The stronger use of quotes, overall a better paper. This is what I have learned, and will continue to use and do better at.
