Art In Nursing – NSG 353
When looking for a type of art medium that would speak to me on how nursing is an art, I really thought to myself why would this represent nursing? Some paintings gave me ideas like taking a blood pressure or listening to heart sounds but this painting/picture that I found in Innovation Hall, about technology, caught my eye. Nursing is an evolving field and so is technology. Nursing is about being creative and on top of things both physically as well as mentally. Overtime, nursing has become more technology based. There isn’t any more physical pen to paper charting, it is all done on a computer. Med carts, vital sign towers, and IV pump machines are all examples of technology that nurses use. Even better, the use of technology is how members of the health care team interact with each other. Without it, the healthcare team may not be getting the fastest care and answers needed for their patients. As this technology becomes more advanced, nurses have to become more creative and adapt to the technology changes to make sure their care is the best for their patient. To me that is art. If anything goes wrong, and as we know, technology doesn’t always run smoothly, nurses have to be able to react fast and know how to react without the help of a machine. No matter its occasional faults, nurses make faults too, and technology can be that extra brain that assists in the patient care. That is why I chose a picture of technology to speak on how nursing is an art; it’s creative and always evolving.

Very nicely done Krista. Technology changes the course of nursing all the time, giving us new skills to learn and data to decipher. Our ability to master the technology is part of the competence we must develop to provide the best possible care to patients. If this is your photo, you should say so, otherwise, it should be cited.
