Reflection on NL Modules 1 & 2
NL Module 1 Reflection: Testing and Remediation
This module really allowed me to open up my eyes into all there is when it comes to testing. To state it simply, it’s not just answering questions and being done with it. There’s actually a lot that can go into helping us nursing students become better test takers. There was a lot of new learning material but what I really learned and what will help me integrate into the nursing culture is the type of question’s that are asked. These questions are worded to not simply just be an easy answer, but for us to really apply our knowledge and skill in order to find the right answer. I think how these questions are worded based on the content that I am taught will really help me in patient care because I’m not only learning just to learn, I’m learning to know and apply the content as a skill. Acronyms really help me when it comes to studying and remembering hard words/terms. I can make up a word that means something to me and has a connection to the material that I’m learning, allowing me to piece harder things to remember easier together. I know when I’m taking an exam and I have a lot of terms to remember, I write my acronyms down and can refer to them when needed so I can focus on the exam questions at hand. I believe that it’s these small details like acronyms and the applied knowledge questions that will help make my transition into patient care much smoother.
NL Module 2 Reflection: Nursing Concepts
This module really identifies the need for nurses and their effect on the patient and the interdisciplinary team. The nurse plays a vital role in patient care. There are many concepts from the nursing culture that contribute to the care of the patient but also the skill of the nurse. As the module states, the nurse is with the patient the most. The nurse really gets to know the patient. When caring for a patient the nursing process is what is used. The nursing process can really influence’s a student’s integration into nursing because that’s what nurses center their care on. If one step is off, they can reassess or even start the nursing process all over again. Within the nursing process is heart, and compassion, and effort. The patient is the nurse’s number one priority and their care can really be impactful. It could change a life. That’s why nurses have to listen to the patient when they have that one on one time or just at any time, they need to show that care, they need to express it in actions as well as words. As a student nurse, I can learn from my patients, my nursing instructors, and all nurses I work with to better my care and be the best future nurse for my future patients.
