Reflection on NL Modules 3 & 4
NL Module 3 Reflection: Knowledge and Clinical Judgement
Module 3 is on Knowledge and Clinical Judgement. This module is super relevant in the nursing culture. To be a nurse you need to be knowledgeable and also have good clinical judgement. All your knowledge and skills will reflect in whether you perform safe and quality patient care. Knowledge is essential to better the health of the patients we care for. In order to provide safe patient care, it’s key is to know how the body functions. When you know pathophysiology then you can understand how important pharmacology is. The nurse administers the medications, therefore if anything goes wrong, they are at fault. Nurses can be the eyes to spot something wrong before taking action and save a possible medical error. That’s why it is key to know how the body works first to then understand at a greater level what we are putting into the body that could cause a reaction. In order to learn this information, we all have to study and learn the material in the way that works for us. Whether you are a tactile, visual, or auditory learner we are all learning the same material so no matter our learning styles we can all be successful and integrate our learning into our nursing.
NL Module 4 Reflection: Priority Setting Frameworks
Module 4 is on Priority Setting Frameworks. This module is extremely important for a nurse and any healthcare team member. This is the order that a nurse will choose to take when caring for their patient. The order in care is actually very critical because some actions are more of a priority for patients than others and it is up to the nurse on what they should do first and what order they should proceed with. As a nursing student, using some of the seven priority setting frameworks when working with patients will really help me prioritize my care for them. These frameworks are part of the nursing culture and for a student like me to adapt to them I believe that when I meet a patient, I need to think about what the priorities are for that patient in particular. Whether it’s who I’ll see first or what needs need to be met for them to be successful in healing. Even if it’s as simple as sitting with a patient while they’re eating to ensure proper nutrition as well as maintaining clearance in their airway. I will ensure that my patients are getting the priority care they need when it’s needed to ensure their safety and their needs are being met and in doing so this will improve my patient care.
