Appraisal and synthesis
I discovered that it is much more common now that patient’s aren’t experiencing quality care because healthcare is stretched thin. Nurses are working long shifts, multiple days a week, and trying to balance complicated cases and up to four patients. Some of those patients require more attention than others, therefore they’re not all receiving the same amount of care if the hospitals were adequately staffed or better yet the nurse-to-patient ratio was appropriate. My appraisal and synthesis aided in my assumptions about my topic. I knew that a higher nurse to patient ratio would lead to more favorable patient outcomes and quality of care. My findings will definitely impact my future nursing practice, because I know the importance of quality care and I will be prepared for taking care of around 4 patients. Maybe practice will change with more studies and research and the findings that patients quality of care could be better with a higher nurse to patient ratio will lead to change. My team member and I did arrive at the same conclusion about the findings. As I reflect on my teams process, I think the strength of our team is we are organized and do the work when we can. If one of us has an idea in mind we take it and go with it. We communicate well and get work done. That is how we solve any problems we have or challenges we face. The only challenge that interfered with this semester was the other classes workload and assignments so that’s when time management comes in.
