Prepare for Licensure (ATI Pharmacology CAT)
I think this adaptive quiz went a lot better than the first adaptive quiz I took. If I improve little by little for each adaptive quiz then I know the time I’m putting into my remediations, the small changes I’m making to my test taking strategies, and the content and knowledge I am learning as well as retaining is paying off. Pharmacology content always makes me nervous because there are a lot of medications that are important to know, but there’s even more side effects to remember. To me, the most important part about pharmacology is the effect that the medication takes on the patient. Not all medications that patient’s take will interact appropriately in their body. For this reason, medication education is super important. The nurse is responsible for teaching patient education about medications and it’s important they have the patient teach back what they learned. As a nurse, you won’t know if the patient retained any information from the education you provided unless they can teach it back to you.
For this adaptive quiz, I took the advice from the comment on my last reflection to time myself for each question so I knew how long I was taking but also how long I could take. Time can be deceiving, and it was helpful to have a timer so I could really take my time for each question. Since I had the comfort of a timer, I was not thinking in the back of my head about the minute and a half limit for the NCLEX. This strategy of timing myself will help better prepare me for when I take the NCLEX because I will be comfortable with the time limit. I know what I need to do in order to fully comprehend the questions I’m reading but also take the time to understand the right answer. For the next quiz, I could really take some time not to second guess myself and be careful of those trick words that in my head steer me away from the correct answer. As I reflect on my SMART goals, again it’s important I look for specific words that could throw me off, make sure that the answer to the question is measurable, make sure I am achieving the time frame of a minute and a half, making sure the answer is relevant to what the question is asking, and lastly, again being time sensitive. If I can keep up these SMART goals as I did better at for this adaptive quiz, I will continue to be successful.
